Per ASTM A106 and API 5L, the bands below are indicative seamless carbon steel pipe prices for orders placed in May 2026, covering ASTM A106 Grade B, ASTM A53, and select IS 3589 grades. Seamless pipes are hot-pierced from solid billets and have no weld seam, making them the standard choice for high-pressure, high-temperature, and critical-service applications.

Prices are per kilogram (₹/kg), ex-warehouse Kanpur, exclusive of GST (18%). We source from ISMT, Jindal SAW, Maharashtra Seamless, and Chandra Seamless. For a firm delivered quote, submit your RFQ.

Why Seamless Pipes Cost More Than ERW

Manufacturing Process

Seamless pipes are made by piercing a heated solid billet through a mandrel. This process uses more energy and yields fewer usable meters per ton of raw steel compared to ERW (which welds a flat strip). The result is a pipe with no weld seam — critical for pressure integrity at high temperatures.

Schedule & Wall Thickness

Higher schedules (Sch 80, Sch 160) mean thicker walls and more steel per meter. A 4" NPS Sch 160 pipe weighs roughly 2.5× more per meter than the same OD in Sch 40. Price per kg stays similar, but cost per meter scales with the schedule.

Mill Source Premium

ISMT and Jindal SAW are the leading Indian mills for seamless pipes. Import options (Tenaris, Vallourec, Sumitomo) carry a 40–60% premium but are required for certain international project specifications.

Why are seamless pipes more expensive than ERW pipes?
Seamless pipes are manufactured by piercing a solid billet, which requires more energy and results in lower yield compared to ERW (which welds a flat strip into a tube). The seamless process produces pipes with no weld seam, making them stronger for high-pressure and high-temperature applications.
What is the price difference between Schedule 40 and Schedule 80?
Schedule 80 pipes have thicker walls than Schedule 40, so they use more steel per meter. Typically, Schedule 80 costs 30–50% more than Schedule 40 for the same OD. The exact premium depends on the size and the current mill pricing.
Do you stock ASTM A106 Grade B seamless pipes?
Yes. We maintain ready stock of A106 Gr.B in popular sizes (1" to 6" NPS, Sch 40 and Sch 80). Non-standard sizes and Schedule 160 may require 7–15 days lead time from the mill.
Can I get seamless pipes with IBR certification?
For boiler applications requiring IBR compliance, we recommend our SA210/SA192 boiler tubes, which come with Form III-C documentation. Standard A106 Gr.B pipes are not typically IBR-stamped unless specifically ordered from the mill.
What length do seamless pipes come in?
Standard mill lengths are 5.8 m or 6.0 m (single random length). Double random length (9–12 m) is available for select sizes. Cut-to-length service is available at an additional charge.
