Seamless pipe and tube is produced without a longitudinal weld seam, but “seamless” is only the manufacturing route. Buyers still need to define the governing standard, grade, dimensions, supply condition, service conditions, testing and documentation required by the project.
Start from service conditions and the project specification
Pressure, temperature, fluid, corrosion allowance, design code and regulatory requirements determine which seamless material specification is appropriate. Do not substitute a different standard or grade solely because the dimensions look similar.
State the complete material requirement
- Product standard, grade and manufacturing or heat-treatment condition where required.
- OD or NB, wall thickness or schedule, tolerance, and length.
- End preparation, surface condition, marking, and packing requirements.
- Quantity and delivery destination.
Define testing, certificates and inspection
The required material certificate, mechanical or pressure tests, NDT, supplementary testing and inspection route should come from the governing specification or purchase order. Put those requirements into the RFQ so the proposed source can be checked before order release.
Treat IBR requirements as order-specific
For boiler-related work in India, the applicable Indian Boiler Regulations documentation and inspection path depends on the equipment, service, manufacturer, material and project requirements. State the IBR-related requirement on the RFQ and verify the proposed compliance route before purchase.
