Cold-Drawing Premium

Precision tubes undergo a secondary cold-drawing process after hot-rolling. This additional step (drawing through a die with or without a mandrel) is what delivers the tight OD tolerance (±0.1 mm) and smooth finish (Ra ≤ 1.6 µm). The extra processing adds 25–40% to the cost of a comparable seamless tube.

DIN 2391 vs IS 4923

DIN 2391 specifies cold-drawn seamless round tubes for hydraulic and pneumatic power systems. IS 4923 covers hollow sections (square, rectangular, circular) for structural and general engineering. DIN 2391 commands a significant premium due to tighter tolerances and the cold-drawn process.

Size & Wall Thickness

Smaller ODs (below 20 mm) carry higher per-kg costs because the drawing process becomes more labor-intensive and yields fewer meters per draw pass. Thicker walls use more steel but the per-kg price remains similar.
