What is the difference between CDW tubes and seamless tubes?
CDW tubes start as ERW welded tubes that are subsequently cold drawn to achieve precision tolerances. Seamless tubes start from solid billets that are hot-pierced and optionally cold drawn. CDW tubes are 20-40% cheaper than seamless for equivalent sizes and offer comparable dimensional accuracy. Seamless tubes are preferred when weld-seam-free integrity is critical (high-pressure hydraulic, boiler service). For automotive, furniture, and general engineering, CDW tubes are the standard choice.
What shapes are CDW tubes available in?
CDW tubes are available in round, square, rectangular, and special-shaped (D-section, oval, hexagonal, triangular) profiles. Round tubes are most common for automotive and hydraulic applications. Square and rectangular profiles are used in furniture, display systems, and structural fabrication. Special shapes can be produced with custom dies for specific engineering applications.
What surface finish can CDW tubes achieve?
Standard CDW tubes achieve a surface roughness of Ra ≤ 1.6 μm (N7) as-drawn. For hydraulic cylinder applications requiring smoother surfaces, honing or roller burnishing can bring the internal finish to Ra ≤ 0.4 μm (N5). External finish can be improved by polishing, chrome plating, or powder coating depending on the end application.
