What Are Hollow Sections?
Per BIS IS 4923 and ASTM A500, structural hollow sections are closed-profile steel tubes used as load-bearing members in buildings and industrial structures. Their closed cross-section provides superior torsional resistance compared to open sections (I-beams, channels). Per IS 800:2007, RHS/SHS sections suit multi-storey frames and sheds; CHS sections are used for transmission towers, bridges, and architectural features.
