What 25 NB pipe weight describes

The 25 NB trade size is called one inch, although its listed steel outside diameter is 33.7 mm. Nominal bore identifies the family rather than the physical outside dimension.

Light, Medium and Heavy retain the same OD while their walls change. The respective figures are 2.6 mm, 3.2 mm and 4.0 mm.

Each kg/m value represents theoretical plain-end black-steel mass. A socket, threaded end, protective cap, or zinc coating changes the dispatched weight.

Class names describe wall series at this bore. They do not identify a strength grade, pressure rating, or ASME schedule.

Use the IS 1239 class thickness chart to compare walls. Check 20 NB and 32 NB beside the full weight chart before totalling a mixed BOQ.

Who should use the 25 NB row

A Kanpur plumbing contractor should use this row when the sanctioned water-service drawing calls for 25 NB IS 1239 tube. JJM procurement must follow the approved package instead of treating one inch as a universal house-connection size.

The site fire guide includes 25 to 32 mm among candidate residential sprinkler branches. The approved hydraulic design, listing requirement, and project specification still choose the material and class.

PWD maintenance teams can compare replacement lengths with this mass only after matching the old line to the written specification. Paint colour or an inch nickname cannot complete that match.

Keep this commodity tube away from hydraulic-cylinder barrels and printing-cylinder work. Those Dada Nagar buyers need controlled bore and surface data, plus tolerance and delivery-condition requirements from the precision-tube routes.

Borewell casing, structural hollow sections and boiler pressure parts use other product standards. For gas, air, water or permitted steam, the engineer also sets pressure and temperature alongside corrosion and joint requirements.

25 NB class mass and dated Kanpur rates

The mass cells below reproduce the generated 25 NB row. Price cells reproduce the MS and GI bands last edited on 24 May 2026, with the sale basis shown separately.

Below one theoretical metric tonne, the largest whole-length counts are 84 Light, 68 Medium, or 56 Heavy pieces. These are arithmetic checks, not standard bundle quantities.

How to write a 25 NB RFQ line

Put one-inch trade language beside the metric dimensions. That pairing prevents a stores nickname from replacing the product description.

• Identify 25 NB, one inch, and 33.7 mm OD on the same item line.
• Select Light 2.6 mm, Medium 3.2 mm, or Heavy 4.0 mm from the approved BOQ.
• Cite IS 1239 Part 1 and copy any separate material designation from the project document.
• Choose black finish or specify IS 4736 zinc at 360 g/m² minimum average coating mass.
• Enter 6 m lengths or the exact cut length needed for the installation schedule.
• Name plain, screwed, socketed, or another approved end preparation rather than leaving the joint implicit.
• Show the piece count, total metres, and calculated MT as three cross-check fields.
• Request an MTC 3.1 carrying heat or lot identity, BIS licence details, and the required test record.
• Add SGS or Bureau Veritas only when the tender inspection plan names that TPI route.
• Separate packing, ex-warehouse Kanpur, GST 18% extra, destination PIN, and unloading responsibility in the commercial block.

Worked 25 NB Medium quantity and cost check

The Medium data line combines 33.7 mm OD, 3.2 mm wall and 2.41 kg/m. Its 6 m field is 14.5 kg.

Suppose a Kanpur take-off contains 100 full lengths. The theoretical black mass is 100 × 14.5 = 1,450 kg, or 1.450 MT.

A 25-length handling group contributes 25 × 14.5 = 362.5 kg, within the 200-500 kg stocked-bundle reference on the Kanpur steel market guide. Four tagged groups reconcile the complete 100-length take-off.

For vehicle planning, seven identical 100-length lots contribute 7 × 1,450 = 10,150 kg, or 10.150 MT of black tube. That clears the site’s 9 MT planning marker, while the carrier adds dunnage and checks actual axle loading.

The site GI note adds roughly 3-6% for planning. Applying it to 1,450 kg gives 1,493.5 kg to 1,537.0 kg for the coated 100-length quantity.

At the 24 May 2026 Medium MS band, 1,450 kg at ₹56 produces ₹81,200. The upper endpoint uses ₹63 per kg and produces ₹91,350 before tax. The matching GI endpoints produce about ₹101,558 to ₹116,812 on the planning masses.

Budget GST at 18% extra and keep freight outside the ex-warehouse steel value. The tax invoice applies the rate in force for the supply.

Receiving errors on one-inch tube

A mixed small-bore load can place 20 NB and 25 NB on the same rack. Measure 33.7 mm OD before accepting a one-inch tag.

Another error treats a 14.5 kg Medium length as proof of class without checking its length. Cut pieces and socketed pieces need a like-for-like mass comparison.

For one full 6 m Medium plain-end tube, the individual ±10% mass band runs from 13.05 kg to 15.95 kg. Hold an outlying sample and verify wall, length, scale condition, and markings before raising a rejection note.

A per-length offer can appear cheaper because it uses Light material. Convert 11.9 kg, 14.5 kg, and 17.6 kg to the same ₹/kg basis before comparing suppliers.

Black and GI pieces should not share an unlabelled count. Match the coating record, heat reference, and challan line before stores posts the receipt.

Thread damage often appears after a strap or bare fork contacts the end. Inspect the first thread and socket engagement before issuing material to the installation crew.

The September 2023 product manual makes 25 NB the first size at which each tube carries its batch number. Tubes at 20 NB and below may place that identity on the bundle tag. Preserve the mark on full pieces and map each cut remnant to the original batch in the stores record.

Standards and tolerances for 25 NB

IS 1239 Part 1:2004 Clause 1.1 covers steel tubes made by the permitted processes, with plain or screwed-and-socketed ends. Its 6 NB through 150 NB scope includes water, non-hazardous gas and air; steam is also listed.

Clause 1.2 recommends only Medium and Heavy tubes for steam and treats Annex A pressure and temperature values as guidance. An approved design still controls a service decision.

Clause 9.1 gives an individual Light tube a mass tolerance of +10% and -8%. A single Medium or Heavy tube uses ±10%.

For a weighment of at least 10 tonnes, the Light load band becomes +7.5% and -5%, while Medium and Heavy use ±7.5%. The worked 1.450 MT lot remains below that load threshold.

The September 2023 BIS product manual records a 5 MPa hydrostatic test, with eddy-current testing as the alternative, for each steel tube. That mill test is separate from an installed-system pressure test.

The BIS manual applies the IS 4736 Clause 5.1 minimum of 360 g/m² to tubes with walls up to 6 mm. Request the galvanising result when the PO calls for GI.

For pump-house work governed by CPWD Part V, the support-spacing table caps support spacing for 20 NB and 25 NB pipe at 2.00 m. It also calls for extra supports at bends and heavy fittings. That project rule does not create a support layout for other services.

An IBR-regulated steam-pipe order follows the competent authority and Form III-A route. Form III-B belongs to boiler tubes, while Form III-C covers mountings and fittings.

Buying 25 NB pipe from Kanpur

Panki lies about 12 km from the yard, while Dada Nagar lies about 8 km away. State the receiving gate and unloading plan for either industrial-area drop.

Daily despatch covers Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh; service also reaches Delhi NCR and Uttarakhand. A buyer still provides the required date because route coverage does not reserve this size.
