Class B Medium = 18.97 kg/m · OD 165.1 mm · Light 17.82 / Heavy 21.27 kg/m
A 150 NB (6 inch) MS pipe weighs 18.97 kg per metre in Class B (Medium) — 17.82 kg/m in Class A and 21.27 kg/m in Class C per IS 1239.
Outside diameter is 165.1 mm. Figures below are theoretical plain-end weights. Compare all sizes on the full pipe weight chart.
150 NB is the upper nominal-bore entry in this IS 1239 weight chart, using 165.1 mm outside diameter. Medium class weighs 18.97 kg/m and 113.8 kg per 6 m piece. Kanpur fire-system and PWD buyers, along with JJM water contractors, should keep that OD on the BOQ. They can then compare the 24 May 2026 ex-warehouse Kanpur price band.
| Class | Wall (mm) | kg/m | kg per 6 m | Approx. pieces / tonne |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Class A (Light) | 4.5 | 17.82 | 106.9 | 9 |
| Class B (Medium) | 4.8 | 18.97 | 113.8 | 8 |
| Class C (Heavy) | 5.4 | 21.27 | 127.6 | 7 |
Pieces per tonne ≈ round(1000 ÷ kg per 6 m length). Use for rough logistics only; actual count depends on exact length and mill mass.
Galvanized (GI) pipe is MS pipe with a zinc coating. Zinc typically adds roughly 3–6% mass over the plain-end MS weight depending on coating class and surface area. Use the MS figures below as the base; for GI orders expect a small uplift, or confirm coated mass on the mill test certificate (MTC).
W = (OD − WT) × WT × 0.02466, with OD = 165.1 mm for this size:
For wholesale supply of 150 NB (6 inch) MS or GI pipe from Kanpur, check the MS pipe price list for current rate bands, then send NB, class (A/B/C), length and tonnage via the RFQ form. We supply with mill test certificates. Thickness class reference: IS 1239 class thickness chart.
The six-inch trade label maps to 150 NB here. The generated IS 1239 row fixes outside diameter at 165.1 mm for all three wall classes.
Light uses 4.5 mm wall, Medium uses 4.8 mm, and Heavy uses 5.4 mm. Their theoretical 6 m masses rise from 106.9 kg to 127.6 kg.
These values describe plain-end black steel. Galvanising, sockets, end preparation, protective material, and permitted mill variation affect actual dispatch mass.
The 150 NB entry closes this site’s class table. IS 3589 begins at 168.3 mm OD, so the next water-main standard is not dimensionally identical.
ASME six-inch schedule pipe also uses 168.3 mm OD on the site schedule chart. Keep 165.1 mm visible wherever fit, flanges, clamps, or fabricated specials depend on diameter.
Review the 125 NB and 100 NB spokes before combining class sizes. The parent chart carries the complete series.
Use 150 NB class tube when an approved water, air, non-hazardous gas, or permitted steam schedule cites IS 1239 Part 1. The drawing must also identify class and material requirements.
The site fire-system guide places 150 NB on industrial ring-main and wet-riser examples. It also appears at the upper end of the guide’s industrial sprinkler-main range.
CPWD Part V Clause 7.3 specifies mild-steel Heavy C-class IS 1239 through 150 mm for work under that wet-riser and sprinkler specification. Other contracts may make another approved selection.
A Kanpur PWD or JJM tender buyer should not extend this row into an IS 3589 trunk main. That standard starts at another OD and carries its own grade and wall, together with a coating and test schedule.
Borewell contractors need IS 4270 casing rather than this utility pipe. Hydraulic and printing-cylinder shops need precision tubes; regulated boiler circuits require their approved pressure-part materials and IBR route.
The first three numeric measures follow the generated 150 NB data. Rate columns use only matching class bands from the MS pipe list last edited 24 May 2026.
| Class name | Nominal wall (mm) | Mass (kg/m) | Mass for 6 m (kg) | MS range (₹/kg) | GI range (₹/kg) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light Class A | 4.5 | 17.82 | 106.9 | 47-53 | 57-65 |
| Medium Class B | 4.8 | 18.97 | 113.8 | 50-56 | 61-69 |
| Heavy Class C | 5.4 | 21.27 | 127.6 | 53-61 | 67-75 |
Keeping a theoretical handling group below 1,000 kg allows 9 Light, 8 Medium, or 7 Heavy full lengths. Actual packing must follow the agreed lifting and transport plan.
A six-inch description can point to two different outside diameters on this site. Write the metric identity before adding commercial and inspection requirements.
Send the approved fire or water schedule through RP Sales RFQ. The buying guide records that RP Sales responds to RFQs within 4 working hours.
Read the Medium registry fields as 165.1 mm OD, 4.8 mm wall and 18.97 kg/m. The length field supplies 113.8 kg per 6 m.
For 100 Medium lengths, theoretical plain-end mass is 100 × 113.8 = 11,380 kg. Dividing by 1,000 gives 11.380 MT.
Four Medium lengths make a 455.2 kg handling group within the site’s 200-500 kg stocked-bundle reference. Twenty-five marked groups account for the 100 ordered pieces without a remainder.
The 11.380 MT order lies above the site’s 9 MT vehicle-planning marker and below 16 MT before dunnage. Vehicle capacity and axle distribution still need carrier approval.
Using the site’s 3-6% zinc allowance, the 100-length GI planning mass becomes 11,721.4 kg to 12,062.8 kg. Treat it as a budgeting range rather than a certified loading weight.
The 24 May 2026 Medium MS endpoints value the black lot at ₹569,000 to ₹637,280. Using GI mass with ₹61-69 per kg produces about ₹715,005 to ₹832,333.
Freight and inspection remain separate from those ex-warehouse figures, as does unloading. Apply GST at 18% for the budget and use the tax rate in force on the invoice.
A dimensional mix-up occurs when stores accept 168.3 mm OD against a 165.1 mm IS 1239 line. A trade-inch label cannot resolve that 3.2 mm difference.
Class identification from one scale reading can also fail. Light’s 106.9 kg theoretical stick lies inside the Medium individual range of 102.42 kg to 125.18 kg.
A receiving team may apply the individual ±10% band to an 11.380 MT Medium load. Clause 9.1 instead provides the qualifying minimum-ten-tonne load rule for that weighment.
GI mass should not be judged against the black table without separating coating. Compare class, count, coating evidence, actual length, and tare before recording a shortage or excess.
Long heavy pieces can dent where forks or chains concentrate load. Check roundness and ends, then inspect the surface and supports while the material remains identifiable on the vehicle.
A fire-pipe paint coat does not demonstrate Heavy C-class. Match the 5.4 mm wall and standard marking to the heat, MTC and project schedule before installation.
IS 1239 Part 1:2004 Clause 1.1 ends its nominal-bore scope at 150 NB. It covers specified steel tubes for water, non-hazardous gas and air; steam is another listed service.
Clause 9.1 permits +10% and -8% mass variation on an individual Light tube. An individual Medium or Heavy tube uses ±10%.
For at least 10 tonnes of Medium or Heavy tube, the load allowance becomes ±7.5%. Applied to the 11,380 kg Medium example, that spans 10,526.5 kg through 12,233.5 kg.
The same minimum load rule gives Light +7.5% and -5%. All three 100-length theoretical totals at 150 NB exceed 10 tonnes, but the delivered weighment must qualify.
Welded Light thickness may fall 8% below nominal under the cited clause. Welded Medium and Heavy may fall 10% below, while positive thickness is not limited there.
The September 2023 product manual pairs a 5 MPa hydrostatic test with eddy-current testing as the alternative. Installed fire testing is a different acceptance record.
The BIS IS 3589 product manual defines that water-and-sewage pipe family from 168.3 mm to 2540 mm OD. Its first size must not replace this chart’s 165.1 mm tube.
Within the cited CPWD scope, the pump-house support table caps 150 NB support spacing at 3.00 m and requires extra support at bends and heavy fittings. The system designer still sets the complete support arrangement.
IBR Form III-A is the steam-pipe form, III-B serves tubes, and III-C applies to boiler mountings and fittings. IS 1239 class weight alone grants no IBR acceptance.
The commercial origin is the RP Sales stockyard in Bartan Bazar, Basanti Nagar, Kanpur 208014. A collection PO should name the ex-warehouse Kanpur basis and loading party.
Dada Nagar is about 8 km from the yard and Jajmau about 10 km. Fire contractors serving either area should send lifting access and full-length handling restrictions with the schedule.
Daily Kanpur dispatch serves Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh; it also reaches Delhi NCR and Uttarakhand. Put the required date and site contact on each destination request, followed by unloading equipment.
Use fire-system pipe guidance for the approved ring or riser line. The IS 3589 standard page covers the larger-OD family; review Kanpur steel pipes and the local market guide before sending the enquiry.
Eastern-UP and Bihar orders can use the Gorakhpur or Patna steel-pipe page alongside the RFQ. Calculate freight from the actual class mix and receiving PIN.
PWD and fire-NOC buyers should preserve inspection hold points. Sugar-mill utility teams should identify ordinary water lines separately from boiler service, and borewell buyers should use the casing route.
