Procurement reference — bands reviewed 24 May 2026
This page does not claim a live survey, mill-feed, or customer-market dataset. It preserves the site's dated 24 May 2026 Kanpur price bands and explains how to compare a current written quotation for the exact grade, size, quantity, documents, and delivery basis.
This Kanpur steel market update helps industrial buyers compare pipe quotations on a common commercial basis. The reference bands below were last reviewed on 24 May 2026. They are indicative ex-warehouse Kanpur rates, not a promise of stock or a firm offer. Buyers should send the complete BOQ, delivery PIN, and inspection scope for a current quotation.
What this Kanpur market update measures
A useful market update separates a published reference band from a supplier quotation. The band is a budgeting aid. It shows the range already maintained on our product price pages for a defined category. A quotation is narrower because it fixes the grade, dimensions, quantity, mill origin, document set, delivery basis, and validity period.
For a Kanpur-origin enquiry, state whether the commercial basis is collection, ex-warehouse Kanpur, or delivery to a named PIN. Buyers in Panki, Dada Nagar, Jajmau, Chakeri, Fazalganj, Kanpur Dehat, Unnao or another destination can use the same comparison fields without assuming stock, route coverage, freight or timing. The accepted quotation must control those order-specific terms.
This page does not treat every market conversation as publishable evidence. Coil commentary, mill allocation, and seasonal demand belong in a dated update only when the underlying observation is attributable. When no reviewed insight is available, buyers should use the displayed price bands as a starting point and request a firm commercial offer through the RFQ form.
Indicative buying bands from Kanpur
The table consolidates the category ranges already published in the site price lists. Each row uses rupees per kilogram, an ex-warehouse Kanpur basis, and excludes GST at 18 percent as published on those lists on 24 May 2026. The review date applies to the underlying bands. It does not convert them into live quotes, and current tax belongs on the quotation.

Who should use this update, and who should not
The page is written for purchase teams building a budget before technical and commercial offers arrive. PWD and JJM tender bidders can use it to test whether an allowance is in the right category. Sugar mills can separate boiler-tube enquiries from ordinary seamless pipe. Hydraulic and printing-cylinder shops can identify the precision-tube band before sending finished-bore requirements.
Borewell contractors and fire-system installers should first confirm the applicable standard, class, finish, and project approval. A generic price per kilogram cannot decide whether a pipe is suitable for pressure, temperature, groundwater, fire duty, or a tender schedule. Those decisions remain with the project specification and responsible engineer.
Buyers should not use the table to value an unidentified bundle, approve a material substitution, or certify a project estimate. A cheaper row can describe a different wall, grade, process, coating, or documentation scope. The correct comparison starts only after every seller quotes the same line item.
How Kanpur buyers compare delivered offers
Begin with the material price on an ex-warehouse Kanpur basis. Add transport separately for the destination PIN, then add GST at the rate stated on each supplier's quotation. Ask each supplier to show loading, packing, cutting, testing, and inspection charges as separate lines. This keeps a low base rate from hiding a higher delivered cost.
Compare the validity printed on each quotation; this page does not assign a standard validity window or claim a daily price movement. A buyer comparing an expired offer with an open offer may be comparing different commercial periods. Record the quotation date, stated validity, payment or price trigger, and any proposed dispatch basis beside the rate, then use the accepted order terms.
Freight deserves its own comparison column. Part loads, dedicated vehicles, mixed-size bundles and long lengths can create different packing and handling requirements. Ask each offer to state the vehicle or charging basis, route, dispatch basis, transit estimate, loading and unloading responsibility. Do not infer availability, service area, timing or a freight saving from quantity alone.
Build an RFQ that suppliers can price consistently
Put one specification on each BOQ line. State NB or OD, wall thickness or class, material grade, process, length, quantity, end finish, and coating. Add the governing standard exactly as it appears on the drawing or tender. Do not replace the standard with a trade nickname when document acceptance matters.
- Identify Light, Medium, or Heavy class for IS 1239 lines, or state the required schedule and wall.
- Name the grade and manufacturing route, including ERW, seamless, CDW, or CDS where the drawing controls it.
- Specify plain, bevelled, threaded, coupled, honed, or other finished ends and surfaces.
- Request the MTC type and any IBR forms named on the PO — Form III-A for steam pipes, Form III-B for boiler tubes, Form III-C for boiler mountings and fittings only — plus dimensional reports and any buyer-nominated TPI, subject to the approved inspection plan.
- State packing, marking, piece count, dispatch split, delivery PIN, and ex-works Kanpur or delivered basis.
Tender bidders should attach the relevant schedule page instead of asking a supplier to infer the requirement. Hydraulic shops should attach the finished drawing and identify the functional bore. Boiler buyers should provide the tube map and IBR requirement before rate comparison. These details reduce clarification cycles after the PO.
Worked weight check before comparing rates
The site weight formula is weight = (OD - t) x t x 0.02466 kg/m, with OD and wall thickness in millimetres. For a 50 mm OD tube with a 4 mm wall, the exact theoretical result is (50 - 4) x 4 x 0.02466 = 4.53744 kg/m. For this estimate, round the metre weight to 4.54 kg/m first; on that consistent two-decimal basis, a 6 m length is 4.54 x 6 = 27.24 kg before allowed manufacturing variation and any coating.
Use that result to compare the quoted piece weight with the stated dimensions. The calculation does not approve the tube for service, and it does not replace actual weighment. It exposes obvious differences before a rate per kilogram is converted into a rate per length. The steel pipe weight calculator handles other OD and wall combinations.
Common mistakes in market-price procurement
In practice, the largest errors come from incomplete comparisons rather than difficult arithmetic. Buyers sometimes compare a per-metre quote with a per-kilogram quote without checking theoretical mass. Others compare black pipe with galvanized material, or a commercial tube with a BIS-marked tender line. The rate looks lower because the scope changed.
Documentation is another failure point. An MTC should map to the heat or batch markings on the material. A generic certificate, unreadable scan, or certificate for a different size does not establish traceability. Where the PO names TPI or IBR forms, the commercial comparison must include that requirement before order placement.
Dispatch assumptions also distort comparisons. Ex-warehouse Kanpur leaves freight outside the material rate. Delivered pricing must name the unloading point and who bears detention, unloading, and transit-risk obligations. Ask for the weighbridge slip, packing list, GST invoice, e-way bill, and mill documents to travel with the consignment.
Dispatch from Kanpur to UP and North India
Kanpur buyers can collect against an ex-works or ex-warehouse quotation, subject to the agreed loading terms. Outstation buyers should request a delivered comparison for their site PIN. The Kanpur steel market guide explains how the city's ERW, seamless, boiler, borewell, and precision-tube supply channels differ.
Local product pages provide the next specification layer. Use the Kanpur steel pipe page for mixed requirements, the Kanpur MS ERW page for IS 1239 enquiries, and the Kanpur seamless pipe page for pressure and process lines. Borewell contractors can use the drill and borewell pipe page.
City landing pages help outstation teams frame destination enquiries. RP Sales maintains pages for Lucknow, Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Jhansi and Bareilly, plus Patna. Send the destination PIN in the same RFQ as the technical BOQ.
Key points for a purchase file

Procurement Recommendations
Plan procurement against the required date
Put the required-at-site date, delivery PIN, unloading window, quantity, inspection points, and document-release sequence in the RFQ. The written quotation should state current availability, validity, dispatch basis, and carrier estimate; this dated reference does not predict a seasonal movement.
Boiler Tube Availability
For SA210 or SA192 boiler-tube enquiries, state grade, size, quantity, governing drawing, and whether IBR applies. The written offer should identify the proposed source basis, Form III-B and other inspection records where required, authority hold points, availability, price basis and lead-time estimate. This dated page does not promise a response, source or delivery window.
Questions left after reading the market update
Can a tender bidder use the highest published band as a final budget?
Treat the band as an early allowance only. A tender BOQ may require a different class, coating, inspection plan, or delivery scope. Send the schedule and destination before freezing the purchase budget. Keep a contingency decision inside the bidder's own estimating process rather than assuming the published maximum covers every requirement.
Why can two quotes with the same rate per kilogram have different totals?
The suppliers may be using different chargeable weights, length allowances, packing charges, or freight assumptions. Compare the piece count, length, theoretical or actual weight basis, and tax calculation. Ask both sellers to state the same delivery term before deciding that their basic rates are equal.
Should a buyer issue the PO while a quotation is still being clarified?
Resolve technical exceptions first. The PO should record the accepted grade, standard, size, wall, finish, documents, quantity, price basis, tax, freight, and delivery location. A short clarification attached after the PO can be overlooked by stores, accounts, or inspection teams.
What should stores check when a Kanpur dispatch reaches site?
Count bundles and loose pieces before unloading is closed. Check size markings, heat or batch references, visible damage, end condition, and the document packet. Quarantine any mixed or unidentified material until the invoice, packing list, weighbridge slip, and MTC can be reconciled with the PO.
